Misfit Psycles diSSent (Al): Slider Summary
Misfit Psycles (the Corporation) does not subscribe to '
Model Years' as many other, less personable, companies do.
Instead,
Misfit Psycles
(the kinder, gentler Empire) elects to produce products in smaller,
more intimate batches. This allows for subtle improvements and
variances to be applied as frequently or infrequently as necessary.
While this ensures that the
Psycle Products are never restricted in their quest for '
awesome' it can, on occasion, make tracking or identifying a particular 'batch' difficult.
The
majority of products aside, frames are the product most likely to
benefit from small batches, most likely to see small variations and
most important to track.
The
diSSent (Al) is a good example.
Since it's inception and introduction the
diSSent has seen 2 slider systems (as of October 29, 2009).
CNC (black) and FORGED (silver). Both slider systems function admirably. Both slider systems are Rohloff ready.
Both slider systems are approved for use in your diSSent (Al) frame.
CNC (black)The
CNC (
black) version was the original and majority slider that has been sold with the
diSSent (Al) frame. It is currently the STANDARD slider for the diSSent (Al).
Word on the street (that has been verified and the like) suggests that the
Misfit Psycles slider system works with MANY other slider systems from several other manufacturers.
Advantages:Black
CNC'd. This provides a perfectly flat (Disc Brake) caliper mounting surface
Disadvantages:Not Silver
FORGED (silver)The
FORGED (
silver) version was provided on batches of frames beginning with the
Mk.ii dropout design (clarification of which is which and which way is up,
HERE).
There is not a soul alive that could explain the appearance of the
FORGED (silver) system. It simply appeared one day. Never requested, never explained.
Silver DID look nice on occasion and all but offered NO IMPROVEMENT over the initial
CNC (black) slider whatsoever.
Word on the street is similar with these
FORGED (silver) sliders, they also work with some of the slider systems produced by other manufacturers.
Advantages:Silver for a change
Disadvantages:Forged. Not entirely a disadvantage on it's own. Forged sliders can be rounded at the edges (presumably for aesthetics). This rounding of the forged sliders required marginally greater TLC when installing hydraulic brakes...that is when installing 5 sets a day. Average users will NOT see this as a major inconvenience.
There is
NO NEED to upgrade or swap or otherwise change your
FORGED (silver) sliders for
CNC (black) sliders...unless you really want to.
HARDWAREUnintentionally and by accident many of the frames with
FORGED (silver) sliders were shipped with
5mm head allen bolts. While not entirely defective, the smaller head was
prone to stripping.
Strong and powerful
6mm head allen bolts are the STANDARD and were provided with ALL
CNC (black) sliders. They were also provided as EXTRAS to those customers that requested
FORGED (silver) sliders.
There is not danger (aside from inconvenience) associated with the use of 5mm head allen bolts.
But given the choice, why use them?
Managed to out-muscle the 6mm heads? You suck, however, that won't stop you from purchasing a replacement set

This discussion pertains to SILDERS only. There have been revisions to the dropouts as well. Dropouts are discussed
